Fit and healthy Carl Frampton says: “McCreary thinks he’s Floyd Mayweather but he’s not"
Frampton talks of hand injury, his next fight, and plans to become world champion again
Two-weight world champion Carl Frampton is dismissing talk of future world title fights to focus fully on unbeaten American Tyler McCreary.
‘The Jackal’ (26-2, 15 KOs) takes on WBA #5 McCreary (16-0-1, 7 KOs) in Las Vegas on November 30 knowing victory can tee up another world title shot at either featherweight or super-featherweight.
As he continues preparations in the US fight capital, Frampton is full of positivity.
Frampton said: “I’m feeling very determined because it’s been a long time out of the ring and I’m coming off a loss.
“Then there was the chaos of the injury I sustained in Philadelphia. That obviously wasn’t ideal but I’m fit, strong, back in Las Vegas and looking forward to it.
“I’m over the Philadelphia thing now. It was ridiculous and I don’t want to dwell on it. Some people still don’t believe that story! I can’t worry about that too much. It happened and I had to deal with it.
“I genuinely didn’t contemplate retirement because of what happened in Philly. I just wanted to get back on the horse as quickly as possible and I’m lucky it wasn’t a bad fracture. I’m fine now."
Whilst sitting down in a hotel lobby in Philadelphia, a large ornament fell on Frampton's left hand causing a deep cut and fracture to his fifth metacarpal.
“McCreary has a good jab. He thinks he’s Floyd Mayweather but he’s not. He can get lazy at times and I plan to exploit that on the night because he hasn’t fought anyone who’s close to me.”
Frampton unified world super-bantamweight titles in February 2016 before stepping up to dethrone Leo Santa Cruz in his first fight as a featherweight later the same year.
