Harlem Eubank shows heart to move up to 16-0
Rising super-lightweight star Harlem Eubank (16-0, 6KO) dominated Liverpool's Tom Farrell (21-6, 5KO) at the York Hall in Bethnal Green on November 25.
28-year-old Eubank switched well between the jab on the outside and hooks when up close. There was one worrying moment, when he was hurt in the fourth, but the Brighton boxer came through well to extend his unbeaten record to 16 fights.
“I’ve had a good busy year and that is what I need to keep refining my performance,” Eubank said. “I’m continuously learning, I had a short amateur career and I am progressing every fight.
“With the name you get the excess pressure. Tom was at 120 percent tonight.”
Eubank started well and dominated the first three rounds, backing Farrell up and piling in quick hooks with each hand.
Things turned around in the fourth round as 'Fazza' caught his man on the end of a long right and Eubank’s legs wobbled under the power. With Eubank backed against the ropes, 33-year-old Farrell piled in, landing two decent rights before Eubank tied him up to escape the pending stoppage, then ended up firing back late on in the round.
Blood ran from Farrell’s nose in the fifth as Eubank regained control of the contest.
In the sixth stanza, Eubank was given a warning by referee Mark Bates for rabbit punching. But Eubank began using his jab well and forcing Farrell to come forward into trouble.
In the eighth round, Farrell seemed bothered by a clash of heads, followed by a punch, but referee Bates took no action beyond a brief timeout to check on Farrell, then Eubank landed a flashy left hook soon after.
Home fighter Eubank continued to dominate behind his snappy jab, although he was staggered another Farrell right in the ninth round and while Farrell.
Eubank was just that little bit better all fight long, but was affected a couple of times during the fight to keep things interesting for the fans.
At ringside, Lee Every scored it 99-92, while Chas Coakley and Sean McAvoy both had it 99-91, which was fair enough, although it didn’t reflect Farrell’s contribution to a good fight.
Williams vs Trimech
Former WBO middleweight title challenger Liam Williams got back to winning ways as he flattened overmatched Nizar Trimech in the second segment of a middleweight fight ambitiously scheduled for 10 rounds.
It was a big win for Williams, who had not won in over two years, having lost to Demetrius Andrade and then to the headliner's cousin, Chris Eubank Jr.
There was no chance of that, though. Williams just punched too hard and too straight from Trimech, who was way out of his depth.
“It was bang on, just what he needed,” Williams said. “It wasn’t a world-beater in front of me tonight, but he was a decent opponent, he gave some good names good fights. I didn’t expect it to be that easy.
“I needed that bit of a confidence boost after the two losses against Andrade and Eubank and it was a bit of a kick in the nuts. I needed that to lift me back and now I am ready to push on and will fight anyone.
“I promised myself that if I didn’t win and put on a good performance I was done with boxing, I was walking away. I know I have still got plenty in the tank, but if I couldn’t perform tonight, I’m not going to do this any more because I am not a loser, I am a winner. I want to be back on top.”
Williams went straight after Trimech from the first bell, catching the Frenchman with hard rights. Trimech tried to punch his way back and caught Williams with a decent left hook, but he was soon on the floor as Williams missed with the right and followed through with a left that dropped Trimech on his backside.
The Welshman kept on top of Trimech for the remainder of the round and into the second round but the end, when it came, was spectacular. With Trimech backed into the ropes, Williams landed flush with a big overhand right and, with Trimech stunned, he followed up with a left hook that sent him heavily onto the ropes and the floor. Referee Lee Every did not bother with a count as he waved it off at 2:13 of the round.

Liam Williams showed why he is 'The Machine' after bullying Nizar Trimech over two rounds and stopping his opponent, on a night with a peak audience of 940,000 viewers.
