BBN gather predictions for Jack Catterall vs Ohara Davies from key boxing figures
Jack Catterall and Ohara Davies clash on October 6 at the Leicester Arena, live on BT Sport, for ‘El Gato’s’ WBO Inter-Continental super-lightweight title.
Uncharacteristically, the Hackney loudmouth has chosen to keep tightlipped to concentrate on his boxing over the traditional trash talking he has become infamous for.
25-year-old Catterall is unconvinced by his niceties and is confident that the fight is good enough without the need to hype it up in any way.
It’s yet another cracking domestic battle that is extremely hard to call, so BBN have once again relied upon their trusted panel of experts to help pick a winner:
Frank BuglioniFormer British light-heavyweight champion
“This is a great fight and brilliant clash of styles.
My money is on Catterall; I rate Davies very highly, but I don’t think the controversy and changes in training team would have helped his progression. He definitely carries serious power and is blessed with freakishly long arms for his weight.
However, I have been present when Jack Catterall was sparring against Steven Ormond back when I was based in Dublin. He showed tremendous counter punching and inside work as well as great strength and fitness. He really impressed me then and I think the better the opposition, the better Jack will perform. I also think the southpaw stance will go heavily in his favour, we saw how Davies struggled against the southpaw stance of Josh Taylor previously.
Good luck to both men and may the best man win.”
Carl GreavesBoxing promoter
“Very interesting fight this is if I had to pick a winner I'd go Catterall because he's more well-schooled and a good body puncher, but Ohara is very awkward and hits hard with the right hand and, with Jack being a southpaw, he'll get hit with it and could get hurt.
Both good fighters, so I'm looking forward to this fight.”
Mark Tibbs Former professional boxer and boxing trainer
“I’m edging Catterall because of his fluidity and the busier boxing style, both have power so there’s always a chance Davies can pull off the equaliser, I hope Ohara is not too patient.
Intriguing, this fight.”
Steve WoodPromoter
“I’m going Catterall points. Both big punchers with low work rates so expecting that, with them each aware of opponents’ power, a cautious fight.
Think Jack’s the smarter boxer and will prevail in the close exchanges but will have to be careful of the Davies power at distance.”
Frank GreavesBoxing trainer
“Great fight. Davies has all to prove after the Josh Taylor reverse and Catterall is in with his best opponent so far!
Davies is quality, we’ve been sparring with him, if you let him do what he is good at, he wins the fight.
Catterall, a couple of times for me, has looked to run out of ideas and do the same stuff over and over, maybe fresh ideas with his new trainer might see an end to that from him. You have to take Davies’ time away in order to have success against him.
Really is 50/50, but, if pressed I’ll go with Davies on points…just.”
Joe Neale Boxing Agent and Matchmaker
"This is one of the best domestic fights of the year. I like Ohara to win a close decision, I don’t think he is the better boxer but I think Catterall is too easy to hit and Davies will have more success.
Davies by SD."
Daniel Smith Writer for BBN
"Jack Catterall will be an extremely warm order for Ohara Davies, come this Saturday, 6th October.
Catterall's devastating accuracy and rapid, brutal combinations may put the fight to bed early doors; demonstrating his power and slick boxing abilities.
There's definitely glass in the park with this fight – and Davies seems to be more than conscious that talk is cheap, as he's up against an extremely dangerous and capable opponent in 'El Gato.'
But, this is boxing and, as we know, it can all change with one punch!! A cracking domestic scrap should be on the cards.
Good luck to both – may the best man win."
