Boxing in Brentwood

DANNY DIGNUM bt Alfredo Meli TKO9
WBO European middleweight title

Dignum: “Alfredo Meli is quality inside and outside the ring. He’s a really nice person and I’ve got a lot of respect for him.

It was a tough fight, and for the first time ever I found my second wind in a fight. I feel good and I just want to do the best I can.”

SAM GILLEY bt Curtis Felix Jr PTS10
Vacant Southern Area welterweight title

Gilley: “I have wanted this since I was 11. This belt goes over my shoulder but it goes for the whole team too.

“It was a tough fight, and he was a tough geezer. It took until the 10th round for me to knock him down, but I’ve shown that I’ve got power in both hands.”

Hawley: “Huge respect to Josh. He is a proper fighter and he stood there and gave me a hard fight, but I got the job done. If someone comes to fight I will fight back, but I listened to my corner and I got back to my boxing and that won me the fight.

“You’ve got to be fit in this game, and I’m with a world class team that got me as fit as I needed to be. It doesn’t stop here, I’ll keep training hard and keep pushing.”

STEVEN DONNELLY bt Pavel Albrecht TKO3

Donnelly: “It was great to be back in the ring. I haven’t fought since September so it was good to get a few rounds in and it sets me up perfectly for the big fight in May and I’m buzzing for it.

“You’ll see the real Steven Donnelly in eight weeks time. Me and Troy Williamson is a 50-50 fight. We’re both unbeaten and both top amateurs. It’s a fight that everyone wants to see and that’s what boxing is all about.”

Kaisee Benjamin bt SHAQUILLE DAY PTS10

KEVIN REAVELL bt Scott Williams PTS4

RANDAL BARLOW bt Kevin McCauley PTS4

LIAM WELLS bt Zygimantas Butkevicus PTS6

'King Kong' conquers Quigg

Dublin's Jono Carroll produced a career-best performance to stop former World Champion Scott Quigg at Manchester Arena, live on Sky Sports in the UK and DAZN in the US.

'King Kong' dominated from the opening bell before the former WBA Super-Bantamweight Champion's corner threw in the towel in the 11th round after a sustained attack from the Irishman.

Manchester Heavyweight Hughie Fury bounced back from his August defeat to former World Champion Alexander Povetkin by knocking out the Czech Republic's Pavel Sour in three rounds to rekindle his World Heavyweight Title hopes.

Liverpool Super-Welterweight Anthony Fowler dropped late stand in Theophilus Tetteh three times on route to a first round stoppage win to stay on course for a mouth-watering rematch with Preston's Scott Fitzgerald later this year.

Zach Parker stopped Rohan Murdock in the penultimate round to win the WBO International Super-Middleweight Title. The undefeated Derbyshire fighter took control of the fight after the halfway stage and floored the Australian No.1 with a left hook in the 11th round to force a stoppage and secure top ranking with the WBO.

Jack Cullen stopped Tomas Andres Reynoso in two rounds to return to winning ways and set up an exciting clash with Ireland's Jason Quigley on the Whyte-Povetkin undercard on May 2.

Robbie Davies Jr secured a shutout win over Damian Leonardo Yapur in his first fight since teaming up with new trainer Dominic Ingle. Davies Jr dominated the Argentine over eight rounds to claim an 80-72 decision on his return to the ring after losing to super-lightweight rival Lewis Ritson in a domestic thriller in October.

Dalton Smith claimed his third straight stoppage with a TKO victory over Benson Nyilawila. The former amateur star from Sheffield dropped southpaw Nyilawila in every round before the referee's intervention in the fourth to extend his record in the pro ranks to 5-0.

'The Albanian Bear' Reshat Mati progressed to 7-0 (5 KOs) with a second round KO win, Oldham Lightweight Aqib Fiaz earned a shutout 40-36 points win over Dean Jones to move to 5-0, Ricky Hatton-trained Super-Bantamweight prospect Ibrahim Nadim moved to 2-0 with a 39-37 points win over Stefan Nicolae, Stretford Middleweight Bradley Rea decisioned Pavol Garaj to earn his ninth win as a pro and Liverpool Super-Flyweight Blane Hyland claimed the third win of his career by outpointing Joel Sanchez.

Ellison eliminates Kinsiona

Darwen's Mickey Ellison (12-2) made short work of the home fighter Christian Kinsiona (9-2-2) at the Magna Centre in Rotherham with a first-round TKO win.

Kinsiona came into the contest aggressive and relentless and trapped Ellison on the ropes as he unleashed an unending attack. Ellison threw shots sporadically through his tight guard, but was being outworked and Christian's body shot with the right hand were getting through. It was only when Mickey took a step to his right and provided himself with the space he neede that he landed an overhand right flush on Kinsiona as he was off-balance. He went down heavily, but bravely rose again, somehow. Another three or four right hands and he was down again, his corner threw in the towel at just 1:49 of the English super-middleweight title final eliminator.

Kay prospers in English title defence

Goodwin Boxing's Kay Prospere (14-1-1), 35 from Luton, defended his English super-lightweight title successfully against challenger Bilal Rehman (13-2) in Boxing Connected's show in Dunstable on March 7.

English title contender John Harding Jr (8-1-1) scored a stoppage won over Latvian Kristaps Zulgis (5-16-3). Managed by Dillian Whyte, 'Pester' was utilising his jab and rolling under anything that Zulgis would throw back, until a straight right hand from distance landed cleanly on Zulgis and sent him backwards. Harding stepped in and killed the fight off with an overhand right on the top of the head. Zulgis went down and was clearly not up for any more as he let the count run out as he looked up from the floor.

Sokolowski strikes again

Ellis Machin (4-1-1) lost his unbeaten status as Kamil Sokolowski (9-17-2) outpointed him in front of his own crowd in Nottinghamshire on Saturday night. Devon's Sokolowski, who holds a win over Ulimate Boxxer heavyweight winner Nick Webb, defeated 'The Machine' 58-56 on points over six rounds.
