Thomas Kindon in seventh heaven
Super-bantamweight prospect, Thomas Kindon (7-0) made it seven wins from seven fights defeating experienced Estonian boxer, Sergey Tasimov (10-52-4) on points over six three-minute rounds, live on Channel 5 on December 5th at Carshalton’s Westcroft Leisure Centre on a Hennessy Sports show.
The 20-year-old Surrey boxer known as the ‘Pocket Rocket’ had to adapt to beat the Northern European who recently held unbeaten prospect, Ramzy Nassa (6-0-1) to a draw at the Magna Centre in Rotherham in October this year.
Kindon loaded up on his shots all fight, looking to hurt his counterpart but was made to work hard for the full six rounds scored at 60-54 to the Surrey boxer by referee, Ian John-Lewis.
Post-fight Kindon said of his durable opponent, “He’s been around the block so he knows what he’s doing and he was there to give me a test.
“I didn’t box the best I’d ever boxed but my trainers were happy and we got the win. “I wasn’t going for the knockout, I did relax a bit and caught him with a good right hand in the fourth. I caught him twice and he wobbled a bit but took it well.”
Kindon described his first experience boxing on TV, “I was fine with it, I just took it as a normal show with the cameras there to record the DVD so didn’t make any difference.” Of his plans for next year, the ‘Pocket Rocket’ estimated, “Think it’ll be late January or early February next. I’ve got to keep fit and stay ready so will keep ticking over all through Christmas, nothing too intense ‘cos it will just burn me out so I’ll enjoy Christmas and go from there.”
Lightning Lenny Daws (30-4-2) and Ruben Nieto (17-1) headlined the terrestrial TV show titled, ‘Destiny’ with Tyson Fury in attendance in a European super-lightweight title contest.
The man from Morden was disqualified in the 10th round for an intentional headbutt on his Spanish opponent that left him cut and unable to continue.
Former Southern Area champion and Prizefighter finalist, Danny ‘Cassius’ Connor (14-9-2) provided chief support in what was his 25th pro contest and second career stoppage against opponent Radoslav Mitev (7-25-1).
A thunderous straight right landing flush dropped his Bulgarian counterpart who failed to beat the referee’s count.
Unbeaten flyweight, Andrew Selby (3-0), younger brother to World champion, Lee Selby, sizzled against yet another tough opponent with a winning record in Central American Everth Briceno (35-15-2).
The two-time World title challenger from Nicaragua gave it his all but was bewildered by the Welshman’s movement, fancy footwork and switch-hitting.
The two-time European amateur champion, Selby, 26-years-old from Barry, looks certain to be fast-tracked to major titles in 2016. Hughie Fury (18-0), cousin to World heavyweight champion Tyson who was seated in the front row, eased past stand-in opponent, Larry Olubamiwo (11-19).
The former Southern Area heavyweight champion known as the ‘War Machine’ bizarrely kept turning his back away from Fury in an attempt to minimise the target area but eventually became his undoing, taking a big right hand to the body and failing to beat the referee’s count with just 1:37 on the clock in the opening round. Wins from Tommy McCarthy (7-0), Jordan Gill (14-0) and Atif Shafiq (16-1) completed the card.
