ERT gym offer predictions for Chris Eubank Jr. vs Conor Benn
Headed by trainer Paul Stevenson, the century-old Everton Red Triangle gym in Liverpool is home to WBC Silver featherweight champ Nick Ball; WBC International Silver super-bantam titlist and KO artist Andrew Cain; undefeated slickster Bradley Strand; plus Olympian Peter McGrail and his younger brother Joe; not forgetting their newest addition, heavyweight Boma Brown.
The gym is a conveyor belt of champions, with many of the above names having won national titles for the historic club.
BBN asked the talent-packed palace for their predictions for this weekend's legacy-making fight between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn.
Nick Ball
WBC Silver super-featherweight champion
“Conor Benn, for me.
“I think he's no messing, I like his style, me. No messing, gets straight in and he's coming to take your head off; I feel like he's a true professional.
“I don't really know until they get in fight, I don't really know how Benn is going to approach it; might come out fighting tall or might come out and put it on him, but I hope Benn wins, I like him.”
Boma Brown
Heavyweight debutant
“I's a tough one, I don't think we really know how it will turn out until Conor Benn gets hit with 8oz gloves on by an actual middleweight. I know that the weight is a little bit lower, but even still, Eubank is the bigger man, and until Conor gets hits then we'll really be able to tell which way the fight is gonna go. I know Conor is sparring with top middleweights and super-middles to get himself ready, but obviously its going to be different when they get the little gloves on.
“So, for that reason, I do side a little bit towards Eubank, but at the same time I like Conor a lot, I like how aggressive he is, I like his tenacity, so I wouldn't be surprised at all if he just went about his business and got the job done over Eubank. But I think Eubank is quite smart, he's had the more experience, but at the same time the youth could be on the side with Conor Benn.
“But, all in all, who do I think will win the fight? I'm going to side with Benn, something tells me Benn will get the job done, and I'm not to sure whether he does it over the distance or by knockout, I'm not sure but I probably lean towards Conor Benn to get the job done.”
Bradley Strand
Unbeaten super-bantamweight
“I think the weight might be a bit too much for Eubank Jr. to lose, so I fancy Ben for this one.”
